BEGINNERS - Sweet Modak & Spicy Modak for Ganesh Chaturthi - Sihi Kadubu & Khara Kadubu
Servings - 4
DOUGH:
1 1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil
1 cup rice flour
In a saucepan, add the water, salt and oil and boil.
Next, add rice flour and mix well.
Cook for a minute and let it cool down completely.
SWEET FILLING:
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 - 1 cup grated jaggery
1 tbsp ghee
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
In a nonstick pan, add the coconut and jaggery.
Stir well and cook for 5 minutes, then add ghee and cardamom powder, and mix well.
Cook that for 5 more minutes and let it cool down.
SPICY FILLING:
1 cup pre-soaked chana dal
1/4 cup grated coconut
4 green chillies
1-inch ginger
Coriander
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp hing (Asafoetida)
Some water
Add chana dal, coconut, chillies, ginger, coriander, salt, hing and water in a blender.
Grind coarsely and transfer to the microwave-safe container.
Microwave for 3 - 4 minutes and let it cool down.
MODAKS:
Knead the rice dough until soft and then divide the dough.
Roll the dough into a circle shape, and cut it into small circles.
Now, shape the edges into a flower pattern.
Take a rolled circled dough on your palm, and fill the sweet stuffing or spicy stuffing in the centre.
Seal the edges as shown in the video.
Place all the modaks in the greased idli plates and steam for 10 minutes on medium flame.
